Job Summary:
Maintain grounds and related equipment including irrigation
systems, turf, landscaping, athletic equipment, signs, fences.
Operate and maintain a variety of grounds tools and equipment
including mowers, aerators, snow plows, tractors, and skid loaders.
Lay-out and mark athletic fields.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Mow turf around buildings and on athletic fields. Aerate as
needed. Maintain the artificial turf field and track.
- Maintain and repair irrigation systems, including pipes,
valves, and controls.
- Lay-out and mark athletic fields according to state rules and
regulations and coaches' requests.
- Maintain grounds maintenance equipment.
- Trim grass and weeds along sidewalks, curbs, and fences.
- Plant and prune trees and shrubs.
- Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, parking lots, handicap
walks, and other paved areas.
- Fertilize and top-dress athletic fields.
- Maintain fences, gates, signs, and athletic equipment.
- Order supplies and equipment.
- Shut-down irrigation systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Education, Training and
Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Over two and up to three years of experience (one year of turf
maintenance experience including knowledge of sprinkler systems)
Skills, Knowledge and Equipment:
- Basic math, writing, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of the standard methods, materials, and practices
used in the maintenance of grounds including irrigation systems,
turf, and landscaping.
- Knowledge of the set-up and field markings for various athletic
events.
- Ability to operate power tools, hand tools, and various other
types of equipment.
- Ability to operate skid loaders, lawn tools, tractors, and snow
plows required at hire.
- Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:
- Valid Colorado driver's license.
- Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.
Safety To Self and Others:
- Medium exposure to self to the following: bruises due to
operating tools and equipment; cuts due to sharp objects; chemical
burns due to fertilizers and other garden chemicals; heat burns due
to engines; fractures due to falls; hernia due to lifting heavy
objects; and disease due to exposure to bodily fluids and
garbage.
- Low exposure to self to the following: loss of limb due to
power equipment; loss of sight due to flying objects and contact
with trees and shrubs; and fatality due to falls.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
and frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance
vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and
ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside
weather conditions.
- The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid
conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, extreme heat,
and vibration.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious
places; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical
shock.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
