Lab Technician

Scope of Work:

The primary purpose of this position is to provide base operations support through the performance of a variety of chemical, biological, bacteriological sampling and test on water, wastewater and sludge for Federal, state, and local legislation governing the environment.

Responsibilities:

* Performs a variety of routine laboratory tech functions.
* Use a variety of laboratory equipment including chemicals used in the analysis of wastewater.
* Maintain a clean and orderly laboratory and maintain equipment in clean and properly functioning state, to include all equipment requiring calibration is scheduled as needed.
* Use prescribed laboratory techniques and perform routine tests.
* Analyze samples of raw and treated wastewater, sludge, and other byproducts of wastewater treatment process to determine efficiency of plant processes and to ensure that plant effluent meets water pollution control requirements, using standard laboratory equipment: Conduct tests for settleable solids, suspended solids, total solids, volatile solids, volatile acids, alkalinity, pH, dissolved oxygen demand, turbidity, and other substances.
* Initiate changes in laboratory procedures and equipment in order to increase efficiency of laboratory.
* Ensure all lab testing is performed per EPA standard methods.
* Conduct Composite sampling and testing and E-coli testing twice a week per permit requirements.
* Conduct Quarterly test MPN and Bio-Solids test for Digester sampling and conduct quarterly duplicate testing of composite samples.
* Accurately completes and maintains a variety of reports as required by local, state, and federal regulations. Accurately communicates the outcome of testing to the Plant Lead and Utilities Manager to provide for adjustment to the Plant.
* Pass annual DMR QC test.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

* Must be vaccinated in accordance with all Executive Orders, Government mandates or requirements, contractual requirements, and company policy
* Minimum of 2 years' specialized experience and/or formal education to perform the duties of the position.
* HS Diploma or equivalent required.
* Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
* Must be able to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (Tier 1) background check.
* Must have and maintain a valid CO state driver's license.
* Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test and a criminal record check.
* Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle.
* Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
* Must be able to perform duties under adverse weather conditions (extreme cold / heat, etc.).
* Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
* Knowledge of office automation software (MS Windows, MS Office, including PowerPoint, Word, Access, and Excel) required.
* Duties will require frequent periods of sitting, standing, kneeling, walking, crouching, crawling, reaching, and balancing.
* Physically fit to bend, stoop, and lift in awkward positions and able to lift up to 60 lbs.
* Must possess the ability to work as a team or alone.
* May occasionally work outdoors at a water or wastewater treatment plant or effluent discharge area and may then be exposed to extremes of weather or dangerous chemicals/fumes.

Hourly Rate: $26.47

H&W Fringe: $280.93 - applied to mandatory benefits for all employees working on this contract under provisions of the CBA.
