Summary About the Position: The position is located within MEDDAC, Evans Army Community Hospital, Patient Administration Division, Medical Records Branch at Fort Carson, Colorado. The Medical Records Technician is responsible for assembling and filing medical records and ensure that the records are complete and in compliance with requirements of the accreditation board Responsibilities Ability to abide by HIPAA law concerning the technical, administrative and physical safeguards in protecting patient privacy found in electronic systems and hard copy documentation. Utilize medical terminology and elementary understanding of anatomy and physiology in order to research entire contents of medical records. Operate a computer and type labels, forms and brief written documents and to gather information from several electronic systems to produce a complete record. Handle request for health information from a variety of sources. Experience handling conflict and problems when dealing with customers constructively and appropriately. Greet and direct visitors, customers, or employees to appropriate person or office. Ascertain the nature of call or visit to direct the caller appropriately. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience at GS-05: One year of experience (1) establishing and maintaining custody of outpatient medical records; (2) reviewing medical records for accuracy and completeness, (3) review and release medical documentation for disclosure; (4) terminal digit filing; and (5) knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations concerning patient confidentiality. OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: ClericalComputersCustomer ServiceTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non temporary competitive appointment. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
