Mission & Authority

As a follower of Jesus Christ and a minister of His Gospel, lead from a mastery-level understanding of Young Lifes ministry strategy and ensure that all camp staff are supported and equipped in providing excellent camping experiences for individuals to encounter Jesus Christ and know the truth of Gods love for them.

Apply technology appropriately to assist Young Lifes camping ministry by creating and maintaining systems that help staff manage well and provide excellent camp experiences.

Essential Duties:

Spiritual Formation: Intentionally provide opportunities for staff to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus.

  • Participate in opportunities for growing deeper in your relationship with Jesus.

  • With direction from the supervisor, develop an annual personal spiritual growth plan.

  • Lead and participate in devotionals for camping services staff.

  • Foster an environment where camping services staff have opportunities for ongoing spiritual development, including executing their spiritual growth plan.

Attentive Hospitality: Equip servant leaders who anticipate and respond to the needs of our guests, staff, and vendors through Christ-like service.

  • Establish a culture of service that anticipates needs and responds with professionalism through intentional decisions and systems.

  • Direct the design, development, and maintenance of systems and programs to meet the needs of Camping leadership.

  • Direct the support of Young Life staff with questions about applications, reports, and dashboards provided by the department.

  • Act as primary liaison with YL information services on code review and architecture integration.

  • Ensure a mutually beneficial relationship between camping services and IS department by aligning with established IS standards and excellence of practice.

Interpersonal Relationships: Help build relationships that reflect the character of God with guests, staff, vendors, and neighbors to foster a healthy community.

  • Ensure camping services staff demonstrate the importance of their interpersonal relationships with guests, staff, and vendors and promote a healthy community.

  • Work closely with the Information System team of Young Life to develop and maintain information systems using the same strategic technologies. Influence the choice of these strategic technologies.

Comprehensive Stewardship: Manage with integrity the finances, people, buildings, and equipment that have been entrusted to our ministry.

  • Ensure that staff is being developed and equipped to participate in comprehensive stewardship of camping information systems.

  • Administer the department expense budget and contribute to the cost-effective operation of Camping Services.

  • Develop programs and systems along with staff to ensure cost-effective and current information systems.

  • Work closely with the Infrastructure team to assure that the telephone, networking, and computing infrastructure implemented at camps is consistent, cost-effective, secure, and supported.

Talent Development: Through a consistent and accountable evaluation process, we identify and provide opportunities for staff in continuing education, leadership development, career-pathing, and cross-training.

  • Demonstrate a desire to grow through engagement in the Individual Development Plan process and participation in training and development opportunities.

  • Foster department staff participation in the Individual Development Plan process as well as other training and development opportunities.

  • Select, develop, and encourage qualified staff to effectively carry out the department mission. Lead employees well.

  • Identify and develop staff suitable for additional leadership opportunities.

  • Intentionally pursue opportunities in mission leadership, personal growth, and development.

  • Assist with technical training of Camp staff to support the rollout of new systems.

  • Ensure camp planning and operations are executed within the standards and metrics required for excellence.

  • Serve as a primary business analyst - responsible for bridging the gap between the business needs of the Camping ministry and the information systems defined, developed, and delivered to meet those needs.

  • Maintain knowledge of developments in the area of systems, development processes, and technology. Incorporate new developments into future systems when appropriate.

  • Maintain manuals and documentation as they relate to camping information systems technologies.

  • Ensure the camping IS team demonstrates knowledge and aptitude in systems such as, but not limited to, Salesforce Apex development, Microsoft.net web applications, SQL integration services, and Microsoft visual studio.

  • Frequent interaction with Microsoft data warehouse, tabular reporting database development, power BI and information builders visualizations.

Training Expectations:

  • Train and develop PC admins at each camp.

  • Frequent reading on state of the art and data processing.

  • Attendance at conferences and seminars to maintain the level of familiarity with the subject matter.

Camp or Job Specific Working Conditions:

  • Open office environment

  • Occasional travel

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in a computer technology field

Qualifications and Experience Preferred For The Job:

  • General understanding of Young Life culture; Young Life management experience as a department head level or above highly desirable.

  • General business management experience (budget management, accounting systems, human resource systems, training systems, etc.)

  • 3-5 years of experience managing one or more information processing functions (operations, development, etc.)

  • Broad knowledge of information systems technologies, and implementation experience with web technologies, database applications and SaaS applications like CRM and budgeting.

  • Current experience with programming and computer systems to enable working alongside staff in the effective development of the information systems.

  • Recent development and leadership experience applying Microsoft .Net, Version Control Systems (TFS, Git), Salesforce, Information Builders, and/or Vena technologies to design and implement systems.
