Job Description:

To provide media production support for campus media department and studio facility and television production classes, and also provide academic coordination and planning for existing cable television station and the Digital Film Communications program.

Job Duties:

  • To provide video production support for campus media department and studio facility.
  • Provide support for television production classes.
  • Provide academic coordination and planning for existing cable television station.
  • Planning and development of programs.
  • Discuss media production needs with clients to determine program content and structure.
  • Produce programs: conduct interviews; manage talent; serve as producer, editor, videographer, and/or audio/lighting specialist.
  • Provide training and direction to the production staff as needed, including interns, staff, students, faculty and volunteer.
  • Assist in teaching media workshops and educational programs to train participants in the mechanics and application of digital media.
  • Assist in upkeep of studio, production truck, camera kits and production sets and properties.
  • Work with the production classes to ensure the students follow all required procedures for the use of Media equipment.
  • Manage Media Services students and Digital Film camera and gear kits including overseeing checkout process for film classes.
  • Manage the workflow of checkout kits and Cherwell.
  • Work with the production classes to ensure the students follow all the required procedures for use of the media equipment.
  • Create estimates and invoices for customers based off of their production and project needs.
  • Manage scheduling classrooms for teleconferences, webinars, audio conferences, and basic smart room use and work with clients to ensure they have what they need to be successful.
  • Set up TV production class equipment in the studio using the Newtek Tricaster 8000.
  • Support the instructors and students in all technical needs in the studio classroom.
  • News type video packages Producing promos, commercials, and other assigned marketing material.
  • Various crew positions (including directing) on sports shoots.
  • Special events productions (various positions).
  • Shoot and build Broll library as a resource for the department and University.

Job Competencies:

  • Producer: Design and research projects and determine needs.
  • Director: Direct studio, on-location shoots and live sporting events using professional and student crews. Manage the set up and tear down of equipment in live audience, event centers.
  • Camera Operator: Working with SD and HD cameras of all types: ENG, Studio, Camcorder, Still Cameras.
  • Audio Op: Able to run audio boards and select/position microphones for best performance.
  • CG op: Able to design and operate the Character Generator.
  • Technical Director; Able to set up, manage and operate video switchers and routers, including special effects ideally on a Newtek Tricaster 8000.
  • Stage Manager: Able to manage crews and talent.
  • Maintenance: Basic ability to repair/maintain equipment involved in producing media.
  • Lighting: Able to operate lighting rigs and design light scenes.
  • Ability to supervise to Student Employees.
  • Supervise student employees.
  • Oversee streaming of live video.
  • Manage the department Cherwell ticketing system.
  • Office management and administrative abilities.
  • Strong English written/verbal communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and tactfulness are a must.
  • Able to work in a close team effort where ongoing collaboration among team members and various interconnecting projects is a must.
  • Must be a detailed, confident, and a self-starter.

This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Salary Range: Generally starting at $38,221 to $47,776

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in discipline appropriate to position.
  • One year of related experience.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to to move. Tasks involve holding a hold a camera and occasionaly looking at computer screen. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
