The Director, Sanctity of Human Life (SOHL) - Advocacy for Children position exists to direct and lead the development and implementation of Focus on the Family’s sanctity of human life channels and to deliver content and programs that advance the key ministry objectives in the strategic priority areas of child advocacy, and culture impact.This position exists to lead and direct staff in all aspects of a successful SOHL implementation through the Option Ultrasound Program (OUP), Benevolent Resources Program (BRP), SOHL Content & Communications, and SOHL Campaign efforts.This position represents a guiding principal of FOF and is responsible for oversight of approved plans, budget, and personnel responsibilities.

Establishes, and expands scope and depth of SOHL department for current and future initiatives as approved

Establishes strategic direction for new SOHL initiatives and product/resource innovation/development

Analyzes and implements FOF SOHL ministry-wide and project plans for feasibility, implementation, maintainability, expansion, and impact

Develops and executes strategies and works through other Mobilize channels for SOHL programs and initiatives delivery

Creates opportunities to implement “nurture” strategies for SOHL while co-laboring with others on the “defend” strategies

Develops, oversees and acts as contract liaison for SOHL Content (Preborn, Adoption, Special Needs, End of Life)

Develops strategy, programs, and staffing for approved SOHL initiatives

Forecasts, constructs, and executes approved SOHL programs for global application

Serves as FOF liaison, including speaking commitments and travel to appropriate conferences and seminars to establish and maintain relationships with key leaders in the SOHL community and outline our efforts in this movement

Provides ministry support and assistance throughout all internal departments of FOF to implement project objectives and grow scope of the SOHL

Determines possible requirements, funding and timing solutions to VP, Executive Leadership, or President

Supports/contributes to SOHL team and initiatives as needed to increase division effectiveness

Approves and executes direct mail effortsto highlight the “Sanctity of Human Life” message to various target audiences

Provides direction to various departments and editorial staff members in presenting SOHL topics to FOF constituents

Speaks on behalf of the ministry at various events and represents Focus SOHL to establish and maintain relationships with key leaders in the SOHL community and outline our efforts in this movementDrives continuous research and recommendations related to SOHL ongoing success

Develops and maintains documentation of current year plans and schedules

Develops funding requirements (Capital, Expense), obtains approval, and manages project spending to ensure proper funding utilization and to maximize stewardship of department

Coaches, mentors, and holds team members accountable on program enhancements and attainment of measurable results

Assists in developing the annual programmatic budget and monitors the monthly expenditures to ensure budget compliance Provides high-level management oversight for specific programs and projects; Option Ultrasound Program, Benevolent Resources Program, SOHL Content and Communication and SOHL Campaign Sets priorities, goals and limits for project work.Ensures projects and campaigns maintain strategic fit with larger Focus strategy

Creates and manages the “relationship strategy” for how constituents will be drawn to, interact with, and ultimately support the audience / ministry

Management Reporting and Analysis:

Develops detailed updates for the Focus Board of Director on a quarterly basis, or as requested, including budget performance and strategic plans

Performs ongoing and as-requested audits of departments’ compliance to established policies and procedures; provides reports and recommendations to Vice President/Executive Director as is appropriate

Drivescontinuous analysis of ministry trends and of process ramifications to the management team including recommendations of appropriate response strategies

Establishes and executes growth of SOHL with VP/ED as needed to meet goals and objectives

Exercises oversight of internal SOHL direct reports and external contractors

Executes leadership through a diverse team to ensure project completion on time and stays within budget

Acts as liaison to like-minded partners and other organizations as VP/ED requires

Applies and grows business metrics for consistent improvement of SOHL impact

Develops and maintains relationship between audience owners, MCG, business services groups

Hires future SOHL personnel and trains for assigned duties

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

May participate in "insider" events hosted by Donor Ministries and other Focus departments

Performs other duties as assigned

Managerial Breadth/Scope of Job:

Supervises and leads department support staff

Working Environment/Physical Requirements:

Regular travel to various events/meetings, and countries as needed

JOB QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Character/Spiritual:

Exemplifies Ephesians 5:1-2, “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children and walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us...”

Pursues the Great Commission given by Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of  the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Focus; adheres to the  Standard of Moral Conduct  and  Statement of Faith ; upholds Focus on the Family's ministry in prayer

Prays personally for Focus on the Family’s staff and constituents and may occasionally lead in a public prayer

This role is considered a Spokesperson for Focus on the Family and should represent Focus' position and tone at all times

Knowledge/Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline

5-7 years of professional experience with evidence of increasing responsibility, including supervision of direct reports

2-4 years of direct experience in project management

Thorough understanding of Focus on the Family mission, philosophy, values, and objectives
