Job Description MD/DO - Internal Medicine Physician "Haven of
the adventurous, home of splendid panoramic scenery" The Community
- Colorado Springs, CO Colorado Springs had an estimated population
of 439,886 in 2013, ranking as the second most populous city in the
state of Colorado, behind Denver, and the 41st most populous city
in the United States. The Colorado Springs, CO Metropolitan
Statistical Area had an estimated population of 678,319 in 2013.
The city covers 194.7 square miles (504 km2), making it the most
extensive municipality in Colorado. Colorado Springs was selected
as the No. 1 Best Big City in "Best Places to Live " by Money
magazine in 2006, and placed number one in Outside's 2009 list of
America's Best Cities. Fort Carson (formerly Camp Carson)
Established in 1942, following Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. Camp
Carson was named in honor of the legendary Army scout, General
Christopher "Kit " Carson, who explored much of the West in the
1800s. Fort Carson's beautiful scenery has made it one of the most
requested duty stations in the U.S. Army. It is considered the
second most popular CONUS duty station, after Fort Lewis,
Washington, and adopted "Best Hometown in the Army " as its motto
in 2007. Base population is estimated around 14,000. Requirements
(duties include, but are not limited to) The Internal Medicine
Physician shall provide inpatient and outpatient Internal Medicine
Physician services to authorized beneficiaries. The Internal
Medicine Physician shall be the primary care manager (PCM) for a
designated group of patients during the term of the contract. The
Internal Medicine Physician shall be required to treat patients
from other provider panels. The Internal Medicine Physician shall
have inpatient admitting responsibilities and perform inpatient
rounds. The Internal Medicine Physician shall perform chart reviews
and attend medical staff meetings as part of the normal workday.
The Internal Medicine Physician shall provide initial emergency
medical care required to any civilian, military, or military
beneficiary requiring it in life-threatening situations. Patients
shall be transferred to the appropriate military or civilian
hospital when the attending physician determines that the patient
is stable enough to make the trip. The Internal Medicine Physician
shall interview patients with common and complex illnesses,
diseases, and functional disorders in the areas of Allergy and
Immunology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Endocrinology,
Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Disease,
Nephrology, Neurology, Pulmonary Disease and Rheumatology. The
Internal Medicine Physician may admit and may provide care to
patients in the intensive care setting in accordance with MTF
policies, Internal Medicine Physicians assess, stabilize, and
determine disposition of patients with emergent conditions in
accordance with medical staff policy. They may assess, stabilize,
and determine disposition of patients with emergent conditions and
refer patients to military or civilian hospitals for more complex
medical problems. The Internal Medicine Physician shall provide
comprehensive and continuing health and medical care services e.g.
diagnosis, prevention, therapy, maintenance and rehabilitation. The
Internal Medicine Physician shall manage the health care needs of
patients with serious illnesses through consultation or direct
referral to specialty physicians. The Internal Medicine Physician
shall write prescriptions only for medications within the scope of
work of the Internal Medicine Physician. Medications beyond the
scope of work of the Internal Medicine Physician require
interaction with physicians from other clinics. The Internal
Medicine Physician shall complete medical records, forms and
documents. The Internal Medicine shall take the patient history and
perform medical surveillance physicals on appointed military and
Department of Army Civilians. The Internal Medicine Physician shall
request lab tests, x-rays, pharmaceuticals, etc. via the CHCS
computer system. The Internal Medicine Physician shall request
consultations and procedures as considered appropriate. The
Internal Medicine Physician shall study health records and evaluate
the significance of total clinical evidence. The Internal Medicine
Physician shall make periodic follow-up examinations of patients to
determine progress and reaction to treatment, review clinical
evidence to detect deviation from normal disease course, and
determine the patient's progress. When deemed appropriate, the
Internal Medicine Physician shall consult with other physicians
concerning the significance of symptoms and interpretations,
prepare clinical reports of each examination, consultation and
diagnosis, and record other pertinent data in the appropriate
format. The Internal Medicine Physician shall maintain accurate and
up-to-date records, including daily man-hours. The Internal
Medicine Physician shall be capable of performing the full range of
Internal Medicine services including diagnosis and treatment of
urgent/acute diseases/injuries to include but not limited to:
Perform exercise portion of radioisotope cardiac perfusion imaging
tests, Perform pharmacologic stress portion of radioisotope cardiac
perfusion imaging tests, Basic synovial fluid analysis, Central
venous pressure monitoring, Electrocardiogram (EKG) interpretation,
Cardiac stress test, Mechanical ventilator management (invasive and
noninvasive), Pulmonary function testing and interpretation, and
Interpret holter monitor/event monitor The Internal Medicine
Physician shall use accepted medical practices and standards.
