DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide project management support for the Falcon Telescope Network
(FTN) and the Cadet Space Operations Center (CSOC) development.
Services required include:
* corresponding and coordinating with collaborators and USAF
Academy (USAFA) personnel via emails, telephone or in person on
matters pertaining to the FTN and CSOC;
* attending weekly meetings for approximately one hour in length at
USAFA or within the local area as necessary or via
* assisting in drafting program documents and research reports
(e.g. Memoranda of Agreement for networking agreements, test plans,
experiment plans, presentations and publications, etc.);
* assisting in equipment purchases by helping to identify potential
vendors and assisting in submitting purchase requirements to the
appropriate government point of contact in the Department of
Physics for final decisions to be made by government personnel.
Equipment shall be monitored and recommended for purchase in such a
way to ensure a well-maintained, state of the art, and fully
operating research laboratory area suitable for the conduct of
research programs by cadets, faculty and professional staff of
Provide technical advice, assistance, and research support for the
development of the FTN and CSOC. These services will result in a
FTN and CSOC that is capable of automated and remote observational
operations. Services required include:
* installing, setting up, and calibrating FTN equipment such as
domes, optical tube assemblies, telescope mounts, imaging and video
cameras, computer and network devices, power supplies;
* testing and troubleshooting of the FTN/CSOC systems;
* assisting in the development of automation of the FTN/CSOC
systems to include scripting of the telescope via application
programming interfaces, developing and testing of CSOC web
* assisting in the network activities linking the FTN with the
* Experience with telescopes, web services, and network systems
that enable automated telescope operations.
* Education: Bachelor s degree in any of the following fields:
physics, astronomy, computer science, or engineering. Three years
experience working on robotic telescopes or any experience working
with the Falcon Telescope Network.
