Job Ad Template OU.LOCATIONSUMMARYThis role reports directly to the CAES Vice President ofEngineering and dotted line to the Vice President and GeneralManager of the Employer Colorado Springs(COS) Business Area and is akey member of the COS leadership team. The selected candidatewill be responsible for driving high standards of engineeringperformance through collaboration and coordination acrossengineering functions and across all functions within thebusiness. This role will manage the optimization of engineering processes,procedures, and tools, addressing opportunities to improve processesand practices within engineering and across functions to assuresuccessful program execution, engineering effectiveness andefficiency, and development speed. The candidate will be responsiblefor defining Engineering's overall long- and short-term functionalgoals to support the site's strategic aims. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESApply strong engineering and programmatic judgment to driveeffective risk and opportunity management. Workcollaboratively with manufacturing engineering to assure thatdesign-for-manufacturing and design-for-reliability principlesare consistently applied to all development programs. Manage detailed engineering resource planning and coordinationof engineering schedules across engineering functions and withother functions such as program management, operations, supplychain, and business development in order to responsively andeffectively deliver engineering requirements for developmentprograms, research and development activities, bids andproposals, and production support; adjusting for evolvingpriorities and resolving resource conflicts as needed.Drive improvements in engineering performance metrics. Drive efficient and consistent application of Life CycleManagement (LCM) across the development programs. Manageengineering Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data collection andreporting. Coordinate, schedule and facilitate as applicable Lean/SixSigma activities for own work area as well as for other areas toenhance cross-functional problem solving; utilize Company toolchampions as appropriate for more significant lean events.Collaborate in team meeting and activities, including SET teamsupport as appropriate. Develop and support teams that makesuggestions, take initiative and actively implementimprovements.Plans critical long range technological requirements toenhance Company objectives or meet anticipated customer needs.Independently identifies and solves significant problemsassociated with the success of current and critical long rangeobjectives. Leads and coordinates the activities of keytechnical personnel and other employees as required.Foster new ideas and inventions. Pursue new technologyconcepts prior to the establishment of any formal IR&D orCR&D establishment. Recommend, plan, lead, review, identifyrisks and evaluate R&D and technological applicationsprograms. Advise senior management on developments, trends orweaknesses in his/her area(s) for the Division/Sector.Manage engineering efforts with other functions (programmanagement, operations, quality, business development, etc.) tooptimize effectiveness and efficiency of site business practicesand product development results.Actively participate in design reviews, proposal evaluations,tiger teams, etc. Prepares and reviews technical papers andreports.Implement Employer-wide tools and processes and define best-fitupdates to complement Employer's engineering standard operatingframework. Evolve design processes to utilize the mosteffective new techniques, assuring methodologies streamlinedesign and drive DTUPC reductions to be responsive to marketneeds.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESIn coordination with the Directors of Engineering of the otherCAES business areas, facilitate and streamline cross-siteborderless engineering activities and resource planning.In coordination with the Directors of Engineering of the otherCAES business areas, share best practices and drive towardscommon approaches and tools in areas that would benefit theColorado Springs business area and CAES.Works in an environment where continuous improvement methodsare utilized to manufacture quality products according to designspecifications and customer expectations;Manages heavy workloads with many constantly changingvariables such that the business plan is not affected;SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESOversee the supervision of personnel, which includesselection, work allocation, training, development and problemresolution; evaluate performance and make recommendations forpersonnel actions; motivate, coach and mentor employees toachieve peak productivity and performance; invest in employeeswelfare through interaction, social events and education growth;select and develop high quality team members. Activelyaddress engineering capabilities and capacity through skillsdevelopment and recruitment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSTwelve (12) years of related semiconductor design experiencein Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or ManufacturingEngineering, including leading multi-disciplinary developmentteams in a high-tech manufacturing company.
