OU.LOCATION SUMMARY: Layout Design Engineer is responsible for the digital portion of an integrated circuit chip development from floorplan definition through to release to wafer fabrication of a digital or mixed signal product. The individual must demonstrate aptitude and hands on capability for designing complex digital blocks, with strong knowledge/experience across the complete ASIC/SOC design flow. An ideal individual will have additional experience with radiation-hardened design, analog/mixed-signal design and the latest EDA tools, and standard cell library use. The individual is expected to analyze and floorplan from a design netlist / block architecture and support layout instantiation of circuits and logic to meet product performance requirements. This person will determine the proper method and procedures to be used in the digital design layout development and determine the best method for implementing the digital design through the place and route process until the complete design is committed to mask generation. Individual must have experience in implementing the proposed method and procedure to layout and verify the post-laid out digital circuits. Additional duties include the evaluation of customer design requirements, methodology and helping formulate estimates of effort/expenses for potential new business, and participation in identifying problems with and improvements to internal design methodologies ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform topological design and layout of moderate to very complex integrated circuits, including the initial floor-planning, power/ground grid design, and place and route, down to transistor level integrated circuit cell layouts.Place and route of integrated circuit synthesized netlists into physical layouts, including the addition of necessary items such as power distribution networks, clock tree synthesis and embedded serial scan chain insertion, etc., required by Customers and/or Cobham Digital or Analog design engineering.Support post-layout static timing, power and signal integrity analyses of complex digital designs and incorporate required design changes in order for the design to meet performance requirements.Perform post-layout netlist and integrated circuit GDSII verification and wafer fabrication process compatibility (DRC, ERC, ARC, LVS, etc.) Using established foundry design rule run files.Prepare and conduct Critical Design Reviews and design data base reviews. Assist in the training of junior designers in the techniques and methodologies to create and verify the physical design of moderate to complex integrated circuits. Must be able to work independently, as a team member, or as a support person with supervision from a senior layout designer, Digital or Analog design engineer. EDUCATION EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors/Masters in Electronic Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent5+ years of direct industry experience with ASIC and/or SoC designA strong background in Physical Integrated Circuit design and transistor layout architecturesA self-starter with the ability to assume leadership rolesAbility to work well in a diverse integrated circuit team environmentExperience with industry standard development tools and methodologies COMPUTER SKILLS: Knowledgeable in and proficiency with Synopsys EDA tools, including IC CompilerWorking knowledge of Ansys RedHawkModern revision-control tools and best-practices in a collaborative, multi-site design communityProficiency with UNIX/Linux including shell scripting, text utilities (e.g. Tcl, sed, awk, grep), using ModulesHigh-level programming such as C/C++, PERL/Python/TCL scriptingProficiency with Windows apps, including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, PDF conversion ABOUT US: Cobham's values of Trust, Talent and Technology have driven us from our launch in 1934 by Sir Alan Cobham, an aviation innovator, to becoming a global leader in state-of-the-art aerospace and defense systems.
