The High-Power Electromagnetics Division (HPEM) team is at the forefront of radiated and conducted energy delivery systems from prime power to applications. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to grow, lead, and learn with talented engineers, physicists, and technicians on long-term programs and new programs supporting the DoD, DoE, and their contractors. The HPEM Division is looking for an exceptionally talented, motivated, and creative EM/RF Test Engineer who will be performing various RF/EM test and measurement tasks for products, systems, components, or modifications as part of an innovative and dynamic engineering team in Colorado Springs, CO.

This role will perform various EM/RF test and measurement tasks for products, systems, components, or in-situ modifications to systems. Assists in field test and lab test preparation, execution, and post-test activities in support of MIL-STD-188-125-1A/2 HEMP testing including shielding effectiveness measurements, pulsed current injection, and continuous-wave immersion. Assists with various lab duties including testbed setup and fabrication, operation of high voltage equipment, and organization and maintenance of test equipment. Requires travel typically ranging from at least 20% up to 40+%.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Primary test activities will be associated with MIL-STD-188-125-1A/2 HEMP testing including shielding effectiveness measurements, pulse current injection, continuous wave immersion.
  • Other tasks can include diagnostics and measurements on power systems, R&D efforts in high voltage, pulsed power, and high-power microwaves.
  • Engaging in a variety of programming such as writing software for instrument control or data analysis.
  • Interacting with peers and other engineering groups to define and author test procedures and plans, analyze and document test results, and recommend improvements based on those results.
  • Constructing, maintaining, and testing electrical and mechanical systems, components, equipment, etc.
  • Assist with testing and modification of electronic systems using measuring and diagnostic tools
  • Document various procedures and designs
  • Assist with preparing, moving, and conducting project tests
  • Perform RF/EM Test Engineer duties that include extended work hours (10+ hrs/day) on deployments ranging from 1 week to 4+ weeks - CONUS or OCONUS
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned Requirements:
    • Requires a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or physics with 0-3 years' experience
    • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and retain a TS security clearance
    • Requires up to 40% travel (CONUS and OCONUS) in support of testing or other customer requirements
    • Maintain a valid driver's license
    • Must be able to lift 50+ lbs
    • Must be detail orientated
    • Ability to apply knowledge of basic electrical/high-voltage safety practices
    • Self-motivation and the willingness to develop new skills and take on a wide variety of tasks
    • Ability to effectively multi-task and handle changing work assignments, schedules, and priorities
    • Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail during extended work hours while traveling
    • Interact effectively with all levels of staff, the public, and outside vendors Preferred Qualifications:
      • Proficiency in MS Office applications
      • Programming exposure to LabVIEW, MATLAB, PSPICE or EMTP-ATP circuit simulation codes, and/or Python
      • Familiarity with microwave network analyzers, RF signal generators, antennas, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, power meters, and inductive current monitors are a plus
      • Strong verbal and written communication skills Working Conditions:
        • The working environment may be either indoor or outdoor. Conditions may vary considerably based on testing activity. Conditions may include moderately to very noisy environments requiring ear protection, workspaces ranging from clean, well-lighted, and well-ventilated to dirty, poorly lit and containing wide temperature variations
        • Requires moderate physical effort, involving frequent standing and moving of equipment, including lifting more than 50 pounds Benefits:

            Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000
