Job Summary:

The Assembly R&D Engineering Manager will be responsible for the execution of the research and development and to support the packaging and assembly strategies and roadmap for Semtech's Protection Products business unit. This is a hands-on role, managing both a small team of packaging/assembly engineers and interacting with other functional teams of manufacturing, design, applications, and test engineers.

This role will have major emphasis on developing and evaluating new processes and equipment but will also focus on development and release of new products, support in optimizing current processes, and clear and concise reporting and problem solving using six-sigma/lean problem-solving tools for issues identified in new product introductions and R&D runs.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing the R&D Assembly engineering team.
  • Manage and execute projects relating to new process and new product development including new equipment development and evaluation.
  • Development of new packages and processes to improve efficiency, throughput, and yield improvement.
  • Prepare and present reports on the status of the R&D Assembly engineering efforts and development projects to senior management.
  • Recruit, train, manage/coach and retain engineering resources supporting assembly and packaging development for semiconductor processes.
  • Disseminate and present information across all levels.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Minimum of a BS in directly applicable Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, or similar). MS or PhD preferred.
    • A proven track record of managing engineering activities with 6+ years of experience in manufacturing or product development environment; electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, electronic packaging, and ISO/TS qualified lean manufacturing environment preferred.
    • Knowledge and working application of quality management system requirements; familiarity with IATF 16949 preferred.
    • Must possess a thorough understanding of the production process associated with the manufacturing and assembly of semiconductor & related peripheral technology products.
    • A demonstrated understanding of Lean principles such as Value Stream Mapping, Just-In-Time, Demand Flow, Single Piece Flow, Five S's, Visual Management, Total Productive Maintenance, Continuous Improvement Process, Kaizen, and SPC.
    • Strong written and verbal skills, including ability to convey complex ideas simply and build successful, collaborative relationships internally and externally.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to prioritize, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
    • Commitment to staying current with the continuous evolution of technology.
    • Strong working knowledge of manufacturing equipment, electro-mechanical systems, CAD, SPC, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Product Lifecycle Management (Agile PLM) and the Microsoft office suite.
    • Must be able to work in a clean room environment and follow clean room protocol. Must understand best practices for safe handling of chemicals.

Such promotions are non-competitive, subject to the discretion of the Company, and may occur at any time. An employee must have the title of Manufacturing Engineering Manager to be promoted to Senior Manufacturing Engineering Manager. The Company does not accept applications for these promotions.

      Manufacturing Engineering Manager: $87,148 - $147,657

      Senior Manufacturing Engineering Manager: $125,825 - $170,599
