Northrop Grumman Space Systems - Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer - User Interface (UI) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO.

Position Overview:

The selected Principal Software Engineer - (UI) will be responsible for software development in the Java language for User Interface (UI) for the Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program. C2BMC is the integrating element of the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS).

Essential Functions:

  • Perform analysis and technical support of systems software products, including problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support.
  • Work from specifications to develop or modify operating systems applications.
  • Assists with design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging and documentation of programs.
  • Designs, codes, tests and implements tools for operations automation.
  • Works on most phases of software systems programming applications and may require instruction and guidance in other phases.The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels.

    Basic Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related experience, or a PhD and 0 years of related experience, or 9 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
    • Software engineering and software development with strong Java/JEE/Swing/UI experience
    • Experience and knowledge of basic software practices such as coding standards and configuration management
    • Understanding of Object Oriented Programming
    • Experience designing and coding User Interfaces, preferably in Java Swing
    • Experience programming in Java
    • Development of Automated Tests for user interfaces
    • Understanding of common design patterns (such as Model-View-Controller, Observer, Factory, Decorator, etc.
    • Experience using common software development and management tools such as git, Jira and Eclipse
    • Understanding of standard system engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and SysML diagrams
    • Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs
    • Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance which is required to startPreferred Qualifications:
      • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
      • Familiarity with Java Swing, Eclipse, Maven, Gradle, Cucumber, Git, Sikuli, Jenkins, XText
      • Experience with Web-based UI frameworks a plus
      • Experience within the BMDS Domain
      • Experience with Scrum-Agile based development, Automated Testing, Continuous Integration
      • Experience with NASA WorldWind or other interactive map products Flexibility and willingness to take on unanticipated tasking.
      • Experience working in an agile development environment.
      • Experience doing automated testing for a User Interface. Salary Range: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD

        Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
