The Middle School Principal will work closely with ACCEL Schools, the Board of Directors (Board), the BLA community and the other BLA campus leadership team members. The Middle School Principal will tend to the issues that concern the school as a whole and will facilitate communication/build consensus among the teachers, staff, families, and Board. The Middle School Principal should have a larger vision for the future direction of the school while continuing to support and encourage the preservation of the Banning Lewis Academy philosophy through the school. Preferred Qualifications: - Highly self-motivated. - Effective written and verbal communication and collaboration skills. - Robust leadership skills, responsibilities/experience including human capital optimization. - School site administrative experience. - Strategic business, operations and budget oversight/management. - Administrator/Principal certification and/or experience. - Experience leading an organization and managing sustainability. - Ability/willingness to lead in fund development, including identification, cultivation and stewardship of donors. - Appreciation for students with learning differences as well as for students from diverse family and socio-economic situations. - Master's degree or higher - Strong advocate for public charter education. Essential Duties & Responsibilities of a Banning Lewis Academy Employee: - Communicate with students, staff and parents in a positive and professional manner. - Promote high expectations, demonstrate a caring attitude and establish an environment that supports high achievement. - Work collaboratively with parents and staff. - Advocate for the school, it's staff, students and programs. - Actively participate as a team member during meetings with staff and administration. - Support effective implementation of the school's Emergency Response Plan. - Other duties as assigned Major Function: Banning Lewis Academy Leadership Duties - Serve as an Educational leader for the Banning Lewis Academy. - Be the point spokesperson for Banning Lewis Preparatory Middle School. - Articulate and advocate the mission of Banning Lewis Academy for students, families, staff, & community. - Serve as ambassador for the organization and community. - Be inspirational, visible, and accessible to members of school community and beyond. - Possess knowledge of Colorado Academic Standards. - Maintain regular, ongoing, and open dialogue with the Board of Directors to include participation in all Board meetings and preparation/presentation of reports as requested by the Board. - Promote highly effective and open communication between staff, parents and Board. - Manage relationships with students, faculty, parents firmly rooted in Banning Lewis Academy philosophy. - Ensure appropriate security and demonstrate judgment to handle crisis situations. - Promote a culture of global citizenship and awareness at the Middle School. - Lead by example in the creation of a culture at the Middle School that reflects the values associated of Banning Lewis Academy. - Maintain constructive liaisons with other educational institutions and associations. - Develop specific operations, goals and objectives to implement the strategic goals that have been mutually established with the Board. - Responsible for the hiring, supervising, mentoring, and evaluating assigned staff to include any decisions regarding disciplinary action or dismissal of staff. - Ensure quality hiring, supervising, mentoring, and evaluating of teaching and support staff positions to include any decisions regarding disciplinary action or dismissal of staff. - Coordinate with school district personnel to ensure appropriate Special Education services. - Coordinate with Banning Lewis Academy leadership team and District 49 Safety and Security in ensuring that all reasonable safety/emergency procedures are in place and appropriately communicated. - Ensure appropriate admission/enrollment of students and maintain proper student-teacher ratios. - Ensure that all state reporting and student/staff records requirements are met. - Ensure safe quality management of facilities. - Ensure appropriate and strategic management of business operations to include the following: o Ensure development, administration, monitoring and amendment of annual operating budget to be presented to Board for approval. - Coordinate with the Banning Lewis Ranch Academy Foundation leadership and participate in board meetings as needed. - Foster positive relationships with key stakeholders including but not limited to Banning Lewis developers, District 49, CDE, and ACCEL Schools - Ensure proper mandated reporter procedures to the Colorado Division for Children, Youth, and Families. - Support a coordinated and ongoing professional development program for all staff to include support of CDE induction programs. - Ensure implementation of a successful student assessment system to include all state required assessments. - Oversee ongoing program evaluation to include curriculum standards, curriculum development, and school operations. - Ensure accountability for all school operations to include ensuring compliance with all applicable requirements of District 49 (authorizer), Colorado Department of Education, State Board, and State Statute. Major Function: Banning Lewis Preparatory Academy Principal Duties - Supervise and evaluate assigned administrative team - Supervise and evaluate assigned office staff and instructional staff in collaboration with assistant principals - Lead and facilitate staff meetings to guide and support staff. - Coordinate with District 49 Safety and Security in ensuring that all reasonable safety/emergency procedures are in place, practiced and appropriately communicated. - Establish and implement a program to oversee and address student behavior issues to include encouraging positive behavior and restorative practices. - Establish and implement a character development program. - Ensure procurement of all instructional/curricular materials. - Lead all school level hiring processes to ensure quality instructional staff. - Manage all school level funding systems to include budget allocations, grants, and activities funds. - Encourage staff to propose, plan, and develop programs in accordance with the mission of the school. - Implement a coordinated school level professional development program for all staff. - Ensure that all school-sponsored events are properly supervised. - Lead school level accountability efforts. - Ensure implementation of a quality school level assessment program to include compliance with all state-required testing requirements. - Oversee development of a robust master schedule that ensures student access to course options that meet student needs and ensures effective use of staff and facilities. - Ensure implementation of a quality curricular program aligned to state standards and meeting the learning needs of students. - Communicate effectively with stakeholders to include colleagues, parents, students, and staff. Required Event Participation: - School Board Meetings - Supervision of co-curricular and extra-curricular events/functions - Parent Nights, Orientation Nights, etc. - Enrollment Information Nights - Other events as requested
